An Illinois man charged with murdering his wife once appeared on the game show “Family Feud,” where he made an ominous quip about how he regrets getting married.
Timothy Bliefnick is accused of shooting and killing his estranged wife and the mother of his three children, 41-year-old Becky Bliefnick. She was found dead inside her Quincy home on Feb. 23, 2023, after she failed to pick up their sons from school, police said.
Years earlier, Bliefnick competed on “Family Feud” with his siblings and parents — and some of his comments have come under scrutiny in wake of his arrest.
“What’s your biggest mistake you made at your wedding?” host Steve Harvey asked in an episode that aired in January 2020.
“Honey, I love you,” Bliefnick said, addressing his wife before turning to Harvey and answering cautiously, “Said, ‘I do?’”
The response drew both gasps and laughter from the studio audience.
“Not my mistake, not my mistake — I love my wife,” Bliefnick emphasized. “I’m gonna get in trouble for that, aren’t I?”
Timothy and Becky Bliefnick, a nurse and loving mother, were married in 2009. They’d been separated for several years and were going through a divorce at the time of Becky’s murder. According to documents cited by the KHQA, Becky had previously filed a restraining order against both her husband and his father.
Bliefnick, in turn, filed his own restraining order against Becky.
“This is an act of domestic violence. Every victim needs to be seen, heard and believed,” Assistant State’s Attorney Josh Jones said in as statement. “While our thoughts and prayers are with Rebecca Bliefnick’s family and her children, our focus and efforts remain on bringing her murderer to justice.”
On Tuesday, Bliefnick made his initial court appearance in Adams County but did not enter a plea. He has maintained his innocence in the slaying.
His lawyer, Casey Schnack, told Fox News that she was preparing a series of court filings “to protect his interests and preserve his constitutional rights.”
